"Location, location, location" is a common theme in Commercial Real Estate. Especially in an industry that is refocusing on fundamentals, and turning its mind towards customer experience. For many of the reasons 'location' is key, so are maps. Carefully crafted maps are central to communicating the proverbial thousand words and putting something tangible on the table for transparent decision-making and stronger investment conviction.

During the 2000s, the skill of mastering a map and presenting real estate with London-black-cab-type knowledge was lost. Google Maps meant that personal notes on paper maps were lost. Building footprints were lost. While tech advanced tourist maps, Commercial Real Estate maps lacked the depth needed for industry professionals. Complex landscapes and sector contexts are elusive.

The cultural phenomenon of the inverted rain drop, aka the 'Google pin', has been great for pin-point accuracy. But in isolation this mapping technique entirely misses critical differences between a coffee shop, a mixed use estate or a modern logistics network.

Fast forward to the 2020s, and mapping tech continues to improve at pace. This DealViews project shares the opportunity to revisit the craft of creating maps that are exclusively tailored for Commercial Real Estate investment clients.

Real Estate Maps can be improved by highlighting market dynamics, sector frameworks, and sharing basic building footprints.

This DealViews beta version starts with essential UK market navigation around openly-marketed deals and the City of London.

DealViews allows investors to pour over a geography super quickly online and in person:

  • Share cashflows about buildings, streets, and projects.
  • Showcase local expertise and market knowledge.
  • Discuss pipelines for lettings, developments, and investments.
  • Help clients gain greater conviction about a City location.
  • Navigate market frameworks.
  • Identify neighborhood patterns.
